Skincare should do more than look good on your shelf. It should make biological sense.

Most of what reaches Indian shelves is either formulated for a very different climate and skin type, or built around whichever ingredient is trending that season. Actives appear at concentrations too low to do anything. Barrier health is an afterthought. Claims outrun the evidence.

Skin Stein began as a response to that gap — a small, focused range that brings together protein biochemistry, dermatological insight and evidence-led formulation. No unnecessary complexity. No chasing trends. Just intelligent formulations designed to deliver.

02 Meet Dr. Sid Nakani

Skin Stein was founded by Dr. Sid Nakani, a protein and peptide biochemist with years of research experience at leading universities in the United States.

That background shapes everything about how the brand works. Peptides, enzymes and the proteins that hold the skin barrier together behave in specific, predictable ways — and understanding that chemistry is the difference between an ingredient list that reads well and a formulation that actually performs on skin. Every Skin Stein product is built from peer-reviewed science rather than marketing convention.

03 Our Philosophy

04 Made for South Asian Skin

South Asian skin has its own biology. Higher baseline melanin activity means pigmentation responds differently — marks linger, a single breakout can leave a spot that outlasts it by months, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is one of the most common concerns we hear about.

Add strong UV exposure, humidity, pollution and hard water, and the result is a set of needs that most global formulations were never designed around. We build for those needs specifically: pigmentation and dark spots, dullness, uneven tone, dehydration, texture and a compromised barrier.

05 How We Formulate

1. Start with the pathway. We identify the biological mechanism behind a concern — for pigmentation, that means the multiple points at which melanin is produced and transferred.
2. Choose actives on evidence. Each ingredient is selected from peer-reviewed literature for that specific pathway, not for its popularity.
3. Use meaningful concentrations. An active at a token percentage is decoration. We formulate at levels the research actually supports.
4. Balance with barrier support. Humectants, lipids and barrier-supportive polymers keep potency from turning into irritation.
5. Get the pH and stability right. Actives are only as good as their delivery system and shelf stability.
6. Test on real skin. Formulas go to real users in real conditions before they go on sale.

07 Tested With Real People

Before launch, our formulations went through a pilot study with real participants over several weeks — with weekly check-ins where we tracked their skin and, just as importantly, explained what was happening and why.

Those sessions taught us as much as they taught the participants. We learned which textures people actually reach for daily, how quickly pigmentation responds when a routine is followed consistently, and where our instructions needed to be clearer. Their feedback shaped the final formulas.

All human images shown on our website are real photographs of pilot-study participants, used with informed consent and protected under applicable copyright laws. Reviews are based on original participant feedback, lightly edited for clarity while preserving the original sentiment. Results vary from person to person.

We believe beauty is more than skin deep — it's a celebration of heritage, science and sustainability. Being good for skin and good for the planet were never meant to be a trade-off.

09 What We Don't Do

We don't test on animals, and we don't use animal-derived ingredients — the entire range is vegan and cruelty free.

We don't make medical claims. Skin Stein products are cosmetics, not medicines, and nothing we sell is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. We don't promise overnight transformations or use retouched before-and-afters. We don't sell fairness or lightening — our work is about even tone and healthy, resilient skin, never about changing who you are. And we don't launch a product just because a category is trending.
